Our staff

Since 2003 Joan and Maureen have co-directed a weekly Spiritual Direction Internship Program. Each year they have also offered one or more Professional Days for retreat and spiritual directors and a variety of series on Spiritual Direction and the Spiritual Exercises.

Sister Maureen Casey, SND

A Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for the past 51 years, Maureen Casey has been involved in education, parish and retreat ministry and spiritual direction. Maureen ministered on the team of St. Stephen’s Priory in Dover, MA for 17 years until it closed and has now been on the retreat team of Miramar Retreat Center in Duxbury, MA for the past 15 years. She also co-directs the Spiritual Direction Internship Initiative held at the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brighton. Her particular interests include scripture, the mystics and the new cosmology and how they relate to God’s passion for our ever-evolving universe.

Joan McCarthy, CSJ

Joan M. McCarthy, CSJ has been ministering in spirituality programs since 1973. In 1974 it was her privilege to be one of the two founding co-directors of St. Joseph Retreat Center. Joan has also ministered full-time at Gonzaga Retreat House in East Gloucester, at an ecumenical, residential treatment center in Canada, on her congregation Formation Team, and on her congregation leadership team. In 2006 Joan returned to St. Joseph Retreat Center in Cohasset where she ministered until October 2016. Over the years Joan has joined retreat teams in numerous U.S. retreat centers, Wales, Ireland, England and Newfoundland. Presently Joan is part of St. Joseph Spiritual Ministries and continues to offer spiritual direction, supervision, directed retreats. She also continues to co-direct SDII along with Maureen.
